Crete

If you visit this island it will be truly enchanting! The sight of blue waters and olive trees everywhere has been breathtaking. The scent of the sun and sea, mixed with a hint of olive, has been a truly magical experience, making you feel like it is summer all year. I appreciated the island's small size and the locals' efforts in caring for their community while welcoming visitors. Enjoy an unforgettable journey filled with sun, sea, and the vibrant spirit of Zakynthos. Kaló taxídi! (Safe travels!)

History

Zante History

Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is a beautiful Greek island in the Ionian Sea with a fascinating history. It has been inhabited since ancient times and was once part of the kingdom of Ithaca. The Romans took over in 191 BC, followed by the Byzantine Empire.

During the Middle Ages, Zakynthos changed hands many times, including rule by the Normans and Venetians. The Venetians (1484-1797) brought wealth and culture, leaving behind many landmarks. After brief periods under French and British rule, the island became part of Greece in 1864. A major earthquake in 1953 led to significant rebuilding.

Today, Zakynthos is known for its stunning spots like Navagio Beach and the Blue Caves. Its rich history and natural beauty make it a popular tourist destination.
